Teaching Portfolio: Taller de Práctica Docente: Kindergarten

Many 7-year-olds may enjoy making significant decisions that are important to them, such as choosing extracurricular activities or taking on more responsibilities at school and at home. They are in a period of transition—no longer wide-eyed kindergarteners but not yet worldly middle-schoolers either. (*)

The teaching context

The teaching context in Kindergarten at Horizonte School is comfortable enough to work with kids. The sitting arrangement is of a large table with little chairs for kids to work. Next to it there is a space for kids to do physical activities. It has some didactic toys and children´s crafts.

About my practicum...

The original aim of this experience was to accomplish with my practicum period but above all to learn from kids and gain experience.

I made use of many resources during my kindergarten practices and I tried all the time to be coherent with a pedagocical perspective. So I believe that this experience was significant for learners because they learned doing things children like doing like playing, singing, colouring, pasting and so on.

A very special skill was necessary when working with kids and it was the ability to communicate through gestures and mimics. Body language is important when kids have no idea about the language itself.

What I learned from this experience is that kindergarten teachers need lot of patience but above all lot of love.

If I had the chance to develop this experience again I would do the same things and activities I made during my lessons. I have no regrets about things I done.
Because of my enrichising experience in kindergarten, I decided that one of my future goals would be to work with kids. I have to say that I never thought working with little people before. I had discovered a new facet in my life!!

That is the reason why I´m very happy and I feel very satisfied with the way I developed this practice. And due to this, the experience was meaningful to me. I felt very confortable with the school, teacher and chidren from kindergarten.
